Malletts Bay Veterinary Hospital offers Acupuncture Services, courtesy of our very own Dr. Katie Gazo.
Dr.Katie Gazo received her certification in veterinary medical acupuncture through the CuraCore Integrative Medicine & Education Center. She studied under Dr. Narda Robinson, a leading authority on scientific integrative medicine and former director of Colorado State University’s Center for Comparative and Integrative Pain Medicine.
Medical acupuncture is a therapeutic method that usually involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles. Modern medical practitioners developed medical acupuncture as an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture. Instead of relying on inexact metaphors to describe the body’s response to treatment, we employ current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, all in keeping with evidence-based medicine.
Acupuncture, when combined with western medicine, allows for a more holistic treatment plan for your pet.
Acupuncture has been shown to help pets with pain, osteoarthritis, vomiting, pain due to cancer, endocrine disorders, and much more by stimulating the nervous system and encouraging the release of natural pain-killers. Research also suggests that acupuncture stimulates the release of oxytocin, also known as the “happy hormone”, which can significantly reduce stress and anxiety.
We’ve seen first-hand just how therapeutic acupuncture can be for our patients – by the end of the session they’re typically dozing off, cozy as can be!
